LAUREL PARK TURF NOTES Tommy Malley, contract rider for the Be-lair Stud, who has won nine consecutive races with Andy Schuttingers Pilate, will handle the chestnut gelded son of Friar Rock and Herodias, providing the stewards see fit to let him ride against the Wheatley Stables Blenheim in the 5,000 Washington Handicap. Johnny Petz, who handles jockey E. Stef-fens book, states that Mrs. John Hertz contract rider is not suffering with eye trouble and will ride out the meeting. Robert J. Walden will ship two horses tomorrow from his famous Bowling Brook Stud at Middleburg to Pimlico to await the opening of the Maryland Jockey Clubs meeting on Monday. The Justa Farm Stables horses reached Pimlico this morning from Jenkintown, Pa. Bert Mulholland states that G. D. Widener will campaign his entire stable during the Bowie meeting, which opens November Is. After witnessing a new mile track record of 1:37 by Jack High, and a mile and seventy yards record of 1:41 by Pilate, no one can deny that track superintendent Woods Dickerson did a fine job when he resurfaced the track last spring. E. R. Bradley has dispensed with tha services of jockey Laverne Fator and he will have no contract with the Kentucky sportsman next season. Hank Mills, Americas leading winning rider, who is here, had better look to his laurels, as Gilbert Elston is coming with a rush. Plying his trade at Latonia, Ky., G. El ston has passed Silvio Coucci and Johnny Gilbert and taken second place. He has ridden 166 winners to 179 for Mills and with a month to go may yet overhaul the pride of the East. Frank J. Bryan, racing secretary of the second annual meeting, to be held Saturday, November 12, at Llangollen, the estate of Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney, at Upper-ville, Va., has issued the book for his meeting. Entries for the Piedmont Gold Cup and Ayershire Cup close on November 2, with secretary Bryan, 250 Park Avenue, New York City. T. J. Healey, head trainer of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney stable, will ship his charges here from New York. He will be accompanied by jockey Alfred Robertson. Willie Knapp, former trainer for Mrs. John D. Hertz, is said to have the inside track for the job of training the W. R. Coe stable when Bennett Creech gives up the string at the conclusion of the Pimlico meeting.
