WOODWARDS ENGLISH BARGAIN Special Correspondence. LONDON, England. The American sportsman, William Woodward, owns in Brown Betty the second best two-year-old seen under silks in England this season, Myrobella undoubtedly being the champion of this division without respect to sex. Brown Betty won three of her five races and in the other two was runner-up. Her latest success was easily gained over the good Nuni, a half-sister, by Friar Marcus, to the good race horse and even more successful sire, Blandford, in the five furlongs Rous Memorial Stakes at the Newmarket first October meeting. Brown Betty also claims Friar Marcus as her sire, and is from Gar-pal, dam of several winners, by Phalaris, from Brig of Air, by Ayrshire, from Bridget, sister to Melton, and is of the No. 8 family. Bred by Sir Alec Black at the Compton Stud, Brown Betty came under the auctioneers hammer at last years Doncaster yearling sales and was bid in at ,000 by the Newmarket trainer, Capt. Cecil Boyd Rochfort, acting on behalf of his American patron. Brown Betty has earned ,233 and has more than won herself out. Her value in the stud after her racing career makes her one of the bargains of recent years.
