BOB CUSTER raced to the front rounding the first turn, continued in the lead under steady reserve, withstood a bold challenge from VANQUISH and held him safe while giving away. The latter, in closest pursuit, moved up strong in the stretch, but could not overhaul the winner. SPANFLOW had no excuses. CHARLIE BILLS closed gamely. SOUTHLAND LAD was outrun. GAY PRINCE raced into a commanding lead rounding the first turn, drew out on the back stretch, but tired in the drive and was under mild pressure to hold SIR DEAN safe. The latter, a forward factor after a half, impeded RIFF RAFF when passing him in the stretch, offered a mild bid, but was not good enough. The latter, in closest attendance for a half, faltered when put to pressure and had to be eased when SIR DEAN bore over in the stretch. MORE POWER had no excuses. The others were outrun.
