J 1 1 J ; ! , , . j , TWO MORE IN ILLINOIS DERBY Slapped and Sweeprush Added to; List of Eligibles for Exposition Park Feature. AURORA, 111., May 15.— The nomination! of Mrs. A. M Creechs Slapped and J. T. Looney*s Sweeprush are the latest to bi added to the roster of nominees for th« ,000 Illinois Derby, which will be run Saturday, May 20. The decision of M». Looney to point Sweeprush for the Aurora feature was made after a consultation with trainer Johnny Shea, who has brought the colt up to hia present form after many persevering months of hard work. "The strapping son of Sweep and Rush Water is a much better horse than given credit for," Shea said, and while it seems an act of conceit to foster the idea of pitting a plater against stake horses, I firmly believe that Sweeprush will vindicate my judgment of his prowess." His ability to negotiate any kind of going successfully and his remarkably consistent performances lately lend credence to Sheas assertion. With such performers as Charley O., Trace Call, Fingal, Pot au Brooms, Col. Hatfield, At Top, North Mill, Spicson, Interpreter, Slapped and Sweeprush to furnish the contest, the race ought to be one of the most attractive of the early season. General manager Robert S. Eddy, Jr., is making extensive plans to handle the record attendance which will be on hand for the big race and is trusting to Dame Fortune for a break in the weather in hopes that the Derby will be decided on a fast track. Placide Frigerio, track superintendent, has been retarded in his progress of grooming the course on account of the constant rains but is optimistic about next weeks forecast for weather and is working his track force overtime to get the track back to its normal state. Nominations for the L*erby closed today, May 15, and all applications in the mail be-« fore midnight will be honored by racing secretary Richard A. Leigh. Fees for nominations are 0, with an additional 0 to start. ~«
