SPLIT GOLD CUP MONEY CICERO, 111., Aug. 5 While Equipoise, C. V. Whitneys champion five-year-old, would seem to have a cup race at weight for age almost at his mercy any time he starts this jear, there is every prospect of a big field in the Hawthorne Gold Cup, the 5,000 stake to be run at Hawthorne on Thursday, August 24. The Hawthorne officials have wisely split the added money this year with 5,000 for second place, ,000 for third, and ,500 for fourth, which makes it worthwhile for trainers to start a good horse even though there is little chance of beating Equipoise, in his present form, at scale weight.
