CATTAR1NICH COLORS SCORE Vercheres-Bred Loggia Easily Triumphs in Dorvals Closing Day Headliner Track Good. MONTREAL, Que., Aug. 5. The Quebec Espoir-Hopeful, having its second renewal, was the feature offering on the closing days program at Dorval. The Espoir, a juvenile dash of five and one-half furlongs, for two-year-olds foaled in the province of Quebec, carried a value of 00. Of the overnight entry list, Cudchic declined, leaving the small field of seven to strive for the prize. Five of the seven that paraded postward were produce of the Vercheres Stock Farm and were sired by the Broomstick stallion Cudgel. The event proved nothing more than a workout for Loggia, from the Cattarinich string. The daughter of Cudgel and Lotto, being eased up at the end a dozen lengths in advance of Irish Counsel, which races for J. H. Smith. Third fell to the lot of Cud helen, which was coupled with Lexis as the Marsonia and Saraguay Stable entry.. The field had no sooner walked into their respective stalls than they were sent on their way. Hanauer at once took the lead with Loggia and opened up a lead of several lengths. The Cattarinich-owned filly continued to draw away, while Lexis was heading the others. In the stretch Hanauer kept looking back and began easing up all through the final sixteenth. Lexis gave way in the stretch, and it was Irish Counsel that raced into second place, with the others strung out for many lengths up the stretch. A banner crowd was on hand for the final days sport of the year. The track was in the best shape since the meeting opened, though it could not be termed better than, good. Jockey R. Watson, who scored with four of his mounts Friday, started off the day auspiciously when he guided Chiefs Troubadour to an easy triumph in the opening race at one mile and seventy yards. Blue Damsel came from far back to take second place, and Risneur was a steady going third. Fair Sun drew away into a long lead in the first half mile but relinquished her command to Chiefs Troubadour nearing the stretch. Once in front, Watson kept after his mount and was safely over the line with two lengths to spare. Blue Damsel, though closing willingly when called upon, was unable to get within striking distance of the victor. Fair Sun tired and lost third position to Risneur. Sir Michael captured the Canadian-bred event of the day that brought out ten sprinting platers over the three-quarters mile route. Ridden by Nick Wall, the Cudgel three-year-old followed in near pursuit of the pace set by Assyrian Prince. When straightened out for the run to the finish Assyrian Prince began tiring and Sir Michael went into the lead, soon drew clear and had scant trouble in holding safe Wee Toddler II. in the last sixteenth. Wee Toddler 11. was the choice for the race, but, after working his way up on the outside to enter into contention, was unable to keep up with the winner in the final stages. Rideau was in the forefront from the beginning and held on well under punishment.
