ONLY ONE AGAIN IN FRONT Runs Another Good Eace to Take Sunrise Handicap at Aqueduct Suspect Captures Steeplechase in Which lollan Meets Severe Injuries Ne ¬ cessitating His Destruction NEW YORK N T June 25 Mrs Deer ing Howes Only One came back with an ¬ other good race at Aqueduct Monday when he was winner of the Sunrise Handicap a six furlongs dash that engaged the smartest band of sprinters at the course C V Whit ¬ neys Halcyon closed a big gap to take sec ¬ ond place and l rs Walter M Jeffords Flying Hour beat William Grahams Open Range for third thirdThis This was the best offering of rather an interesting card of overnight races that brought out another surprisingly large crowd crowdThere There was just an element of luck in the score of Only One Jones had him out of his stall in full stride and as Open Range left he stumbled slightly while Halcyon was last of the six to be under way and in an out ¬ side position with Sickle Pear which broke slightly ahead of him bearing out slightly to handicapJones add to the handicap Jones made every use of his advantage with Only One and he set a fast pace while Sickle Pear was soon alongside They drew out to a lead of four lengths over the others of the small company and then came Flying Hour a full five lengths before Open Range Lady Higloss and Halcyon brought up the rear leadersThe a dozen lengths from the leaders The leading pair were still well clear of the others as they swung into the long stretch but Sickle Pear was beginning to weaken while Only One was still galloping strongly Halcyon had to circle around on the outside at a big loss of ground and well inside the final furlong he was still far back of Only One but he was closing in resolute fashion under Gilberts drive driveRight Right to the end Halcyon continued to close but it was too much of a contract am Only One was safely over the line the win ¬ ner by a length and a half Halcyon had taken second place by a neck and Flying Hour which had been holding to third place while the winner and Sickle Pear were show ¬ ing the way was still there at the line be ¬ ing beaten only a neck by Halcyon Open Range was another two lengths back of Mrs Jeffords fillyAfter filly After coming from Detroit to ride Rose Cross to victory in the Dwyer Stakes Sat ¬ urday Silvio Coucci first rider for the Greentree Stable began his week well when he brought Mrs C Oliver Jselins Ever True home winner in the opening five furlongs dash for maiden juvenile fillies His rid played an important part and it was a close finish when Cloud Sweeper from the Brann castle Farm Stable took second place with I High Hand II a Dorwood Stable starter and the choice of the field third George thirdGeorge A Saportas Suspect in a driving finish was winner of the short course stee ¬ plechase when he led home Mrs F Ambrose Clarks Dartfourth with Mrs D B Wentz Jrs Purple Dust beating Shapfell a stable mate to Dartfourth and the only other to complete the course There were two mis ¬ haps in the running when Capstan unseated N Brown at the fifth fence and Miss Doro ¬ thy Neyharts lollan fell three fences from the finish and when in a contending posi ¬ tion Mr S H Hirst the amateur who rode lollan and N Brown who had the mount on injurylollan Capstan both escaped serious injury lollan was so badly hurt by his fall that he destroyedR was humanely destroyed R R Ashebrooks Back Fence a beaten favorite Saturday came back with a good race in the third to win easily after leading from the start The Greentree Stables Cheshire raced to second place with J P Jones Air Line beating Evasive for third Right thirdRight from the start Back Fence dashed into a safe lead and Stout had only to sit still and running straight and true he was winner by a length and a half While the time was slower than that hung out Satur ¬ day it was a vastly improved performance The fifth was a mile race that engaged five cheap ones and it saw Bahadur from the Maemere Farm Stable an easy winner over the Greentree Stables Koterito with J J Robinsons Kozak beating Infinitate for third thirdFrom From the start Koterito and Bahadur raced away from the others with Infinitate holding third place and Kozak slow to be ¬ gin was rather a bad last The leading pair soon drew away from Infinitate but Koterito could not shake off Bahadur and in the stretch the Greentree plater that on one occasion defeated Chicstraw tired and Bahadur drew away easily to be winner by three lengthsN lengths N E Stantons Bannach Lath ridden by S Coucci was an easy winner of the final race of the day She came from the rear of the pace wore down the pace makers and at the finish had a wide margin over Union one that showed decided improve ¬ ment over his last effort Black Feather after saving ground all the way was a good third thirdThe The division of the Greentree Stable at Detroit will be returned to Empire City for racing at that point
