ABANDON ILLINOIS OAKS The Illinois Oaks renewed every year since 1926 except in 1928 is to be dropped from the list of stake attractions at Wash ¬ ington Park This announcement came from Col Matt J Winn who said that the small fields starting each year in the fixture and the apparent lack of interest in the race on the part of the public is responsible for the decision to abandon the race The Oaks originated at Fairmount Park where it was run in 1926 and 1927 Fairmount Park then dropped the race and it was not run in 1928 but in 1929 it was added to the list of fixtures at Homewood and has been renewed there each year numbering among its win ¬ ners at Homewood the brilliant Rose of Sharon Snowflake Alyssum Suntica Bam boula and last Saturdays winner Mata Hari
