Our Reigh .is a son. of Reigh Count and Anita Peabody, which brought sd much pleasure to Mrs. John Hertz, and he may do for his owner this season what his sire arid dam did a few. years ago. A casual glance at his record as a juvenile fails to set up Our Reigh as brilliant a three-year-old prospect as some of the others in this series, but considering his chances from a number of angles he can very well develop into one of the leaders of his division. For one thing, Our Reigh is a full brother to Our Count, which now, as a four-year-old, is better than at any other time in his career. Other sons and daughters of Reigh Count have shown this same trait of being ordinary- two-year-olds, but of improving as they grew older. Furthermore, Our Reigh is a better looking colt than his brother and with more size and weight to. do what is asked of him and in 4 addition he flashed more ability as a youngster. The colt under discussion won three of his dozen starts last season, but toward the end when he was sent over longer distances he handled himself in a manner suggesting that he would be at home over the routes at which the three-year-old specials are run. Our Reigh rnight have crashed through to victory in the important Walden Handicap last fall but for being badly crowded at the stretch turn and those persons who saw what happened to him in that race hold a higher opinion of his ability. Our Reigh began racing in April at Jamaica, where he started in three maiden events. He won the third of these very easily, stepping the five furlongs in :59, under 118 pounds. The Hertz colt did no more racing until a month later at Detroit, where he finished fourth back of Roman Soldier, Fort Springs and Wild Pigeon. Coming out again at Arlington Park, he encountered a muddy track and raced unplaced as the victory went to Bubbling Mate, with Fort Springs second. Doing no racing during July and August because of a minor mishap suffered in his lone Arlington appearance, Our Reigh resumed campaigning in September by going unplaced back of Mantagna, Good Gamble and other fast juveniles. He evidently needed that effort, as he came back in his next, which was at Jamaica, to take a head decision over Exhibit, with Polar Flight third. Our Reigh displayed a smart performance in the Remsen Handicap, but he was badly blocked in the stretch run, which ruined his chance for victory. However, in finishing fourth he was beaten a length by Esposa, with Mantagna second. Another lay off of several weeks ensued, and the Hertz colt .made his next start at Pimlico in a three-quarters dash, in which he came from well back to be second at the heels of Blossom Again. Off this race he went into the Wal- 1 den Hendicap. In the very bad jam that occurred at the first turn in that mile and a sixteenth race, Our Reigh was roughly treated, but he recovered his stride and gradually gained on the leaders. Rounding the turn into the stretch, the Reigh Count colt was moving so strongly that it appeared he would battle it out with the leaders for victory, but just as Arcaro was about to drive him through an opening, Diablesse came over on him and forced him back. As a result, Our R.eigh had to be content with fifth place, with victory going to Fire thorn, Morpluck second and Polar Flight third. Returning to sprinting, Our Reigh defeated such fair youngsters as Official, Boston Brook and .Direct Hit and then he moved to Bowie with the Endurance Handicap in mind. In a preparatory event, at a mile and seventy yards in which he was the favorite, Our Reigh was soundly beaten by Commonwealth. He did not start in the Endurance, the reason being that he came out of that race with Commonwealth suffering with a severe injury, and as soon as he was able to travel he was shipped to Columbia. After a good winters rest,. Our Reigh is now coming along smoothly in his preparation for the coming season. Our Reigh isnt the largest colt in. the country by any means, but he has enough physique to g6 on if he possesses the class. His sire,Reigh Count, was one of the greatest horses ever seen in this country, while his danf, Anita Peabody, won the Futurity. She was by Luke McLuke, from a daughter of The Tetrarch, representing two good speed lines, but Our Reigh hasnt the dash that might be expected from such ancestry but, rather, he is the slow-beginning but powerful stretch-running type.
