EDWARD HAUGHTON ASSAULTED HOMEWOOD, 111., June 24.— An assault upon Edward Haughton, Texas horseman and trainer of one of the larger and more successful stables at Washington Park by strangers as Haughton was preparing to leave the track Sunday morning, will be rigidly probed, according to C. J. FitzGer-old and George Brown, Jr., Washington Park stewards. Local police and private officers will assist in the investigation. Although Haughton, who suffered lacerations about the head and face, and bruises, did not recognize his assailants and could give no reason for the attack, information said to be in the hands of the police may suffice to run down the two men. Haughton was taken to St. James Hospital at Chicago Heights, and, after receiving treatment, went to his apartment. He was at the stable this morning. -
