t AURORA TURF NOTES s 9 Joseph Cattarinich, treasurer of the Fox Valley Jockey Club, was deeply gratified with the progress of the almost complete renovation of the grandstand, clubhouse and mutuel plant. In addition to conditioning the thoroughbreds that race in the interests of Smith and OConnell, Ed OConnell is supervising the handling of Sun Erin and Carsonb for Mrs. L. E. Carmichael, Illinois patron. Five two-year-olds and a three-year-old make up the list that Charles C. Miller brought in. All Juniors, Campo, Cheese, Chamise and an unnamed filly, all the get of the young sire Minotaur, and Grandmas Girl, a three-year-old, complete the list. Jockey Harry Albrecht notified Frank Hawley custodian of the jockey quarters, that he would be on the scene Tuesday. He rode with much success on the Pacific Coast during the winter. Seven juveniles, which have never started in a race, are being prepared for racing at Aurora. The youngsters are Nellie Mc, Jules Lazard, Legion Girl, Maissoneuve, Jeanne Son, Longueil and Girls Chance. All were wintered at New Orleans; Apprentice J. Donegan, who hails from Chicago, will be given an opportunity to ride regularly at Aurora. The youngster has ridden in only six races thus far, these last fall at Sportsmans Park. He is under contract to W. L. McCue. The young starter, John Morrissey, is supervising the schooling of horses each morning. With the arrival of more than 100 horses from Texas, Monday, Morrissey expects to have at least forty horses each morning breaking from the gate. Former jockey Ralph Whittaker, who took over his initial training job last winter at New Orleans, has Mary Ellen, Henrierva and Little, Peggy here for L. Blankenburg of Detroit. The horses race under the name of Greenfield Stable. I George Swain, who will serve as patrol judge, came from New Orleans, arriving here Sunday. Swain stopped off at Louisville two days before completing his trip to Aurora. George Bulcroft, custodian of the jockey room at Oaldawn Park, Hot Springs, stopped off here from his home, Collinsville, 111. Bulcroft is on his way to Detroit. More than twenty-five jockeys have registered with Frank Hawley, custodian of the jockey room. Hawley expects sixty-five jockeys here for the opening. After an absence of several years from the owners ranks, Frank Barton returns with the mare Darkling, which he claimed at Arlington Downs last week.
