Hhawthorne turf notes 3 The horses of Roy Carruthers, general manager of the Arlington Park and Washington Park race tracks, will campaign at Hawthorne during the coming meeting. They are in the charge of the veteran trainer Charles C. Van Meter, who will also bring some of his own here. Van Meter engaged ten stalls for the meeting, opening May 23, and among those he will campaign are Cessna, Kabo, Undated and four juveniles. The youngsters are: Putzen, b. c, by Sweep All Chop Box; Zingali, b. c, by Infinite Zosora; Miss Sycamore, b. f, by Pharamond II. Vanish, and Kondie, ch. g, by Last Reveille Wonderful One. The latter two race in the colors of Mrs. Roy Carruthers. Chicago race followers who remember the filly Canf li, will be interested in the progress of Heelf ly, her first foaL Heelf ly, which will race at Hawthorne and is a candidate for the Juvenile Handicap, races for the Three Ds Stock Farm Stable. He is a bay colt, by Royal Ford, and won his first start. Trainer Frank Garrett has applied for accommodations for the horses he campaigns for J. E. Hughes, local sportsman, and Howard Bruce. The consistent Silent Shot is in the Hughes barn. W. C. Reichert will have Bushmaster and Tracker here along with four promising juveniles, Sir Midas, Baby Way, Joyce K. and Eswood. Among the fifteen that Jack Webber will campaign for J. S. Ril-ay are Born Happy, Hi-Nelli, Mamas Choice and Jimmie Caba-niss. Racing secretary Julius Reeder, of the Hawthorne tieck, is in Louisville this week, armed with Hawthornes stake blanks. The new secretary for the west side track was in Chicago Monday and then left for Churchill Downs to join general manager C. W. Hay there. With practically all of the leading stables on hand for Derby week and with most of them sure to send horses to Hawthorne, Reeder and Hay contemplate a busy week. The stake blanks are for the 5,000 added Chicago Derby, to be run June 20, and for the five ,000 added events that will feature each Saturdays racing. Response from the bigger stables has been excellent, and several that will not campaign here during the entire meeting have assured president Albert Sabath on his recent trip east that they will ship candidates to Hawthorne for the Derby, and also for the Juvenile Handicap.
