SCOUT ON, prominent in the early racing, challenged strongly when reaching the stretch, then closing determinedly, was up in the last few strides. OLD IRONSIDES, a strong contender from the start, disposed of BLACK SCOUT midway of the stretch, continued strongly, but failed to last long enough. BLACK SCOUT had good speed while setting the pace, saved ground all the way, but weakened under a hard drive in the last eighth. CARELESS KNIGHT, slow to get into stride, worked his way up on the outside and closed full of run. SIC EM closed stoutly from a slow beginning. METTLE was making up ground steadily at the close. SUNNED, outpaced in the first half mile, circled his field to enter contention when reaching the stretch, closed stoutly under punishment and was up in the last few strides. IN FRONT, forwardly placed in the early stages, disposed of WAR SAINT when straightened into the stretch, rallied nicely to a hard drive and fought it out determinedly. WAR SAINT had good speed to set the pace, saved ground all the way and came again after being overtaken. SEMAPHORE, in the contention from the beginning, held on well in the final stages. M. J. BRENNAN closed stoutly after a slow beginning. FAKE raced in spots. JAKOVIA could not menace. WATERSET showed a flash of early speed. CRUISING began slowly and was never a factor. SOME GOOD was shuffled back going into the turn and failed to recover. NARISE was in tight quarters on the inside and could not find racing room. Overweight In Front, 2g pounds; Jakovia, 2. AMPERSAND, quickest away, spurted into a clear lead early, saved ground on the rail throughout and had something left at the finish. SWEET AS SUGAR broke slowly, gradually improved its position to finish stoutly, but was no match for the winner. BLUE ALICE, always a forward factor, continued gamely to the end. EASTWARD steadily improved its position and finished strong. SWIFT QUEEN flashed some speed for half a mile, but stopped badly. CARMINOWE lost ground steadily. GOLDEY F. had her usual speed leaving the gate to take command at once, shook off repeated challenges from MANATELLA while saving ground on the rail and outgamcd MANATELLA in the drive. The latter raced closest to the leader at all times, moved up threateningly through the stretch, but was not good enough. IRREPRESSIBLE lacked speed to get up in the early running, but closed very fast on the outside. GAY BALKO, well up in the early running, tired from her efforts to reach the leaders and was stopping at the end. SUN MICA trailed in the early stages and was never a contender. HOOPS, slow to settle into stride, moved into a contending position on the final turn, swung to the outside of the leaders entering the stretch and was up in the final stride. CHIRAC, always well placed, disposed of MASKED GAL in the stretch and held on well. MASKED GAL had good early speed to set the pace, was given a respite when GAY EDWARD moved up on the far turn, responded well while saving ground into the stretch, but was not good enough. GAY EDWARD forced the early pace, took a brief lead when leaving the back stretch, but was tiring at the end. JANE D. raced evenly and had no excuses. The others were never prominent. MANAGER BILL, a strong factor in the early racing, shook off EXAGGERATION when rcachin the stretch and came out steadily approaching the finish. EXAGGERATION was steadied in front after gaining command at the first turn, rallied gamely when called on, but was no match for the winner. DUTCH UNCLE moved up gamely entering the stretch but was bumped by CHASTITY, and he failed to rally thereafter. CHASTITY raced on the outside all the way and lugged towards the inside rail all during the stretch drive. LIGHT BROOK, far back for three-quarters, became badly blocked all during the closing eighth. KINDACORN raced in dull fashion. MISTER GANDER refused to break with his field and was left. . FOGARTY raced evenly in the early stages, moved up threateningly on the outside on the far turn, but flattened out. U DEMON had early speed but stopped. WISHING STAR could never net up.
