With qualifying tests and workouts due to be completed Wednesday, those among the eighteen three year-olds now regarded as probable starters most certain of accepting the issue will be identified. With the exception of the Belair Studs Granville, Bomar Stables Grand Slam, Wheatley Stables Teufel, E. R. Bradleys Bow and Arrow and Mrs. Marion DuPont Somervilles Transporter, the outstanding candidates for the mile and three-sixteenths event, to which the Maryland Jockey Club is adding 5,000, are coming from other points. Bold Venture, a stanch favorite to become the fifth horse to complete a Kentucky Derby-Preakness double, is expected to arrive here Wednesday from Belmont Park. Morton L. Schwartz colt was returned to Belmont from Louisville after the Derby and trainer Max Hirsch is expected to send the son of St. Germans through his final Preakness prep at that track. Bien Joli was in the shipment of E. R. Bradleys horses moving from Louisville to Belmont Park and he also will be shipped here from New York if his final preparation is satisfactory. The son of Blue Larkspur breezed a mile in 1:43% Saturday at Churchill Downs before being shipped to the East. NEW YORK TRAINED HORSES. V. Whitneys Bright Plumage and Tatterdemalion. Several of these eligibles were engaged at Belmont Park today in a mile event that may be used to determine if they are of Preakness caliber. Memory Book, second to Delphinium at Jamaica in his lone start of the year, displayed much promise in a mile and a furlong workout at Belmont, Saturday, covering the distance in 1:51%. Only three locally-trained eligibles were sent through workouts today and yesterday. Grand Slam, which his connections hope will perform better over Pimlicos track than at . Churchill Downs, was given a stern test yesterday by trainer R. E. Potts, working a mile and an eighth in 1:53%. The son of Chance Play was kept at his task and was timed the opening quarter in :23%, half mile in :48, three-quarters in 1:14 and the mile in 1:40%. Giant Killer, lightly regarded candidate, owned by Walter M. Jeffords, breezed a mile in 1:45% yesterday, after going the half mile in :50 and the three-quarters in 1:17%. Transporter, which has gained favor steadily with work watchers by the splendid manner in which he has been training, was hard held as he breezed six furlongs this morning in 1:17%, the half mile in :50. BOLD VENTURE WORKS WELL. Word was received here that Bold Venture had been sent a mile and an eighth today by Max Hirsch in 1:53%, handily, and Bright Plumage had breezed the same distance in 2:03. No information was received by Pimlico officials regarding the plans for He Did whether the Santa Anita Derby winner is to be shipped here directly from Churchill Downs or will go to New York first.
