| RED RAIN RETURNING TO | RACES IN WITHERS STAKES j NEW YORK, N. Y., May 11.— C. V. Whitneys Red Rain, which has been showing some excellent trials in his preparation for a return to the races in the running of the Withers a week from Saturday, gave a sparkling exhibition of speed at Belmont Park this morning, when he went along for seven furlongs in 1:25%. The son of Pennant and Dustemall was permitted to step right along and was caught the first five furlongs in :58%. Max Hirsch continues to send Morton L. Schwartz Kentucky Derby winner, Bold Venture, along for his Preakness engagement. This morning the son of St. Germans had as his task a handy mile and a furlong in 1:53%. He is at himself and will probably be shipped to Maryland tomorrow. Following his engagement in the Preakness, the colt will be headed for the mile and a half of the Belmont, to be run June 6, the present intention being to dodge the Withers. Another of the candidates for both the Withers and the Belmont was out this morning at the big Nassau County course when Joseph E. Wideners Brevity was sent along for a breezing six furlongs in 1:15. The son of Chance Shot or Sickle has been kept on edge by Pete Coyne, and he should be right at himself at the first asking. I
