SPECIAL AGENT TRIUMPHS I j IN BAY MEADOWS HANDICAP j SAN MATEO, Calif., May 11.โ€” Maj. Austin C. Taylors Special Agent, carrying the A. C. T. Stock Farm colors, scored an easy victory in the 0,000 added Bay Meadows Handicap here Saturday, with Azucar second and Uppermost third. Special Agent, the brown son of Sir Gallahad III. which Major Taylor purchased along with Indian Broom โ€” third in the 1936 Kentucky Derby โ€” from Brookmeade Stable, was much the best over the one mile and a sixteenth route and finished a length and a half in front of Azucar after enjoying a long lead entering the stretch, showing the way throughout and making every post a winning one. There was- never very much to the race after the start, Special Agent taking the lead as soon as he was settled into his stride and setting a fast pace for the five other starters. Uppermost was closest to the leader to the stretch, Azucar dropping back to last place, then making up considerable ground in a fast finish to easily outstay Uppermost, but never threatening the leader, the distance being a trifle short for him. Mickeys Man, Ebony Lady and Dark Winter were outclassed. Special Agent added ,100 to the Taylor coffers and ran the one mile and a sixteenth in 1:43, one second slower than the track record. He was the favorite, at 9 to 10. ยป
