1 FOREIGN TURF NOTES I • i Jongleur, by Yodelist— Brilliant Queen, is one of the best juveniles bred in West Australia for some time. He has won four straight races in a way that suggests he is destined for greater things. The worlds famous Melbourne Cup value will be increased this year to 0,000. Last year the value was 0,000. Phar Lap was the last horse to win the race at the greater value, the prize offering having been cut during the depression. A new stand will be built at the noted Flemington track in Melbourne, in which 10,000 people may find shelter in case of bad weather. The Victoria Racing Club has announced that in the future during the June and July meetings all races, with the exception of Trial Handicaps, will carry a stake of not less than ,500. The Sydney Referee says it is questionable if Australia will be represented in the proposed international races in America. It points out that it is a long way to go, even for rich prizes, and though Phar Lap was successful, the crack sprinter Winooka did not fare as well as anticipated. Australia lost two notable turfmen when W. Mugridge and John McDonald died in Sydney recently. The first mentioned was quite a versatile man, a former steeplechase rider, a noted trainer, author of "How to Train a Race Horse," a contributor to newspapers, in addition to being a song writer.
