TWO MILES AND A FURLONG RACE WEDNESDAY AT CRETE CRETE, 111., Oct. 5. Racing enthusiasts who prefer to see the horses in action over marathon or cup distances will have an opportunity to view one of the longest races to be run in this country this year next Wednesday when the Lincoln Fields feature for that day will test the sturdiest .performers at that track over a distance of two miles and a furlong. To negotiate this long route the contestants will have to make two complete trips around the mile and one-sixteenth racing strip. The field will start directly in front of the stand. The race, appropriately titled the Long Trek, is fashioned for platers three years old and upward, and in providing this contest the less prominent performers will have an opportunity to command the spotlight as they play the leading role on the midweek card. Col. M. J. Winn, executive director, fully appreciates the popularity of long-distance racing and never overlooks an opportunity to offer as much as possible. Up to this time Lincoln Fields has offered a high percentage of longer contests, a race over a mile and one-half having been staged at the local course Wednesday last. This was the final preliminary for the Long Trek. It was won by Justa Sheik in a photograph finish.
