FAIR GROUNDS BOOKS READY Louisiana Derby Value Increased to 0,000 Added. Fourteen Stakes Carded for Decision During 105-Day Meeting Thanksgiving Handicap Opening Day. NEW ORLEANS, La., Oct. 5. First condition books for the Louisiana Jockey Clubs 105-day meeting, beginning Thanksgiving Day, will be released by the printer in a few days, according to announcement by racing secretary Richard A. Leigh. The book will cover the first twelve days of the meeting and will include the opening day feature, the Thanksgiving Handicap, ,000 added, a mile and seventy yards, for all ages. In addition to the opening handicap, the opening day card will include a high class claiming race for three-year-olds and upwards at six furlongs, the claiming price being ,500 to ,000. This will carry a purse of 00. There also will be on the opening card a top condition race for two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs which will carry a purse of 00, with the remaining four purses at 00 each. One of these will be a mile and a sixteenth, claiming, from ,000 to ,500, for three-year-olds and upward. There will be a mile and an eighth race for the same ages at a claiming price of ,000 to ,200, and another at six furlongs with ,000 top and bottom claiming. In this outline, racing secretary Leigh believes that he has covered the entire range of horses which will be stabled here this winter and is making his draft from the list of applications already on file in his office. SEVEN RACES DAILY. In the first book will be the Falrmount Handicap, ,200 added, to be run December 5, and a ,000 handicap to be run November 24, the Saturday following the opening. On these days there also will be ..races at 00, 00 and four at 00. There will be seven races carded each day. Secretary Leigh said that the handicaps listed for the meeting will number fourteen, and that in addition to scattered condition races, there will also be races each Wednesday which carry claiming prices ranging up to ,500. The feature event of the meeting will be the Louisiana Derby, carrying an added value of 0,000, an increase of ,000 over the" previous season. The other stakes listed are as follows: Thanksgiving Handicap, ,000; Fairmount Handicap, ,200; Jefferson Park Handicap, ,500; Pass Christian Handicap, ,500; Christmas Handicap, ,000; New Year Handicap, ,000; Martin Behrmah Handicap, ,200; Geauga Handicap, ,200; Rex Handicap, ,200; Mardi Gras Handicap, ,500; New Orleans Handicap, ,500; Montreal Handicap, ,200; Blue Bonnets Handicap, ,500.
