LEADING AMERICAN JOCKEYS Basil James sensational riding during the past week has been instrumental in his attaining second place in the American jockey standing. Performing with marked success, the Sunnyside, Wash., lad was astride twelve winners during the past week at Lincoln Fields, raising his total for the year to 184, thereby enabling him to supplant Johnny Longden in the runner-up position for riding honors of the year, the latter having 183 to his credit Frank Chojnacki still clings to his lead, with 194 winning mounts, but when -It is remembered that the Cicero boy is at present on a vacation, it is apparent that he will have to make a quick return to the saddle if he wishes to stem the onrush of his closest contender. Ray Hightshoe has been the star of the present Epsom Downs meeting and last week scored with eleven of his mounts. Jimmy Stout likewise came through with eleven winners, while J. Adams exhibited a splendid display of horsemanship at Riverside Park when he piloted twelve of his mounts first across the finish line.
