SPORTSMANS PARK OPENING Everything in Readiness for Inaugural of Final Meeting of Year in Illinois. With the arrival in Chicago, Sunday, of Robert S. Shelley, general manager and racing secretary of the National Jockey Club, operating Sportsmans Park, practically all of the officials for the meeting at the Cicero course are on hand. Shelley today joined John Patton, secretary-treasurer of the club, in the handling of details attendant to the meetings opening next Monday. Patton is particularly enthusiastic over prospects for the eighteen-day session, and he is forecasting a banner fall meeting at the half-mile course. The demand for season box reservations, he says, have been sufficient to indicate a complete sell out of those accommodations. Shelley took chargeof his department this morning and, after considering the large list of stall reservations and the caliber of horses which will be available, declared that Sportsmans Park patrons would not want for sport of the keenest variety. Stabling facilities both at Sportsmans Park and at Hawthorns, across the way, already are at a premium. Among the officials for the meeting already on hand are John Kissane, Robert McAuliffe, Charles L. Trimble and Thomas Stelle. Joseph J. Graddy and George W Schilling, who will serve in the stewards stand with C. J. FitzGerald, Sr., who represents the Illinois Racing Commission, are expected at any time now. The racing strip, which track superintendent Billy Myer has in excellent shape, is j beginning to present busy scenes as horses continue to arrive. Before the middle of the week training activity is expected to be i at its peak.
