1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES f S 4 AV. G. Sparks was an arrival from River Downs with three head. Lady Genie, Wowo and Rettef. The last mentioned will serve as Mr. J. Byron Hilliards mount in the Gentlemens Cup Race which event features festival day. K. S. Cleveland checked in from Lexington with Lucky Foot and Brother Thomas, property of S. G. Miller. William "Buster" Dorsey came from River Downs with For Romance, Henry M., Ada W., and Cool, owned by various interests. S. S. Gano will be represented at the meeting by Judge Barkley and John Allen. George S. Morris is training the pair. Morris also has Whiz for R. T. Slack. B. James, Americas leading jockey, arrived from Sportsmans Park, Chicago, and will swing into action opening day. He was accompanied by his agent, M. Laboyne. The Washington state product is confident he will outdistance Frank Chojnacki, whom he recently displaced as the leader among American jockeys this year. The F. L. B. Stable was transferred here from Lexington and at the conclusion of the Churchill Downs meeting goes to Tropical Park. The shipment, in charge of trainer Pete Battle, was composed of Sis Agnes George Gable, Over Yonder, Colonel Julian and three yearlings. Jockey George South, under contract to Battle, came from his home in Newburg, Ind., where he spent a short vacation following a successful season, including three victories astride Myrtlewood at Keeneland. South, after a hard summers campaign, is lighter than at any time during his career, being down to 100 and his services should be in great remand at the Downs meeting. Jockey William Kern announced that his wife has presented him with a seven-pound baby daughter. Mrs. Kern is doing nicely. Kern is unattached at this time but plans to ride free lance at Churchill Downs. Edward Ruebach wrote track sdperintend-ent Tom Young he is transferring Lauretta Jay, Conastanto, Forgive and Pompatic here at the conclusion of the River Downs meeting, probably one or two days in advance of its closing. Stalls have been reserved for seven head which G. H. Marlman is bringing here from Sportsmans Park. The unit consists of Steal-ingaway, Holdum Brown, Bill Donoghue Foggy Night, Danise M., Isaiah and Nemont! A. "Spec" Dunn purchased Putzen from C. C. Van Meter for the account of David Butler, Hollywood movie director, and Poly-whisk from the Southland Stable for W. C Rigg. From here Dun.i will transfer the Butler and Rigg runners to Santa Anita. Another nationally-known rider to report a was Bobby Dotter, who finished second to- James at Lincoln Fields. Dotter came from Lexington. His numerous friends here were deeply grieved to learn of the sudden passing at Covington, Ky., of the veteran rider. Mack Garner.
