STAGE BEAUTY, away swiftly and having good speed, shook off LOW CUTS after a half mile, continued stoutly and held HERALDIC safe. The latter raced close to the leaders from the beginning and fought it out willingly under punishment in the final drive. LOW CUTS offered stout contention for a half mile and then tired under stout pressure. MICRO made up ground slowly in the closing stages. BERTILLON could not enter contention. MADAME WALTER tired. HAPPY CHASE was badly blocked all during the stretch drive and could not extend herself. MISS SIS was outrun. BALLY BAY displayed speed to move into a clear lead, saved ground throughout and had enough in reserve when roused in the final eighth to stall off WANDREL. The latter was very slow to settle into her stride, circled her field in the last five-sixteenths and finished full of run. TROSTAR bettered his position steadily and came gamely in the closing drive. ACAUTAW was hurried into a contending position at the turn while saving much ground, but was pinched off at the stretch turn, then was held safe. SQUARE PLAY tired after making a stout bid at the turn. MISS ADELINE lacked speed and was held safe. CHERRY STONE quit badly, as did HAPPY HOST. Scratched 39899Waterman, 112. LADY MARYLAND gained a short lead soon after the start, withstood stiff contention from CARE FOR and MY ELSIE, rallied to a severe drive in the late stages and came clear slowly at the end. CARE FOR followed close to the winner, made repeated efforts, but was not good enough. MY ELSIE was hustled hard and, racins on the outside of the leaders, faltered in the last eighth. AERO could not better her position. SWEET DESIRE and FOXY LOCKSY were outrun. GRACEFUL FLIGHT refused to break and was left. Scratched J9753 Cosette, 106. FLYING DERE. reserved back of the leaders while racing c ose up in the first three-quarters swung to the outside when engaging the leaders and, finishing dterminedly, was up in the last strides. ICY WIND then held on courageously when the real test came. raced into a short lead, was steadied until challenged, FELWYN was close up, made several bids and fought it out with excellent courage at the end. OOLDbPKAY was rushed up fast on the inside to enter contention, but was used up and tired in the dosing, drive. ELEANOR C. could not threaten. TUNA, away well, dropped back immediately and could not menace KALEIDA- showed speed for three-quarters. SUNDROPS was done early. Scratched 39947 Meriga, 104; 39793Dona Dulcin, 109. The latter was rated off the early pace, responded gamely when put to a drive and finished with good energy. TREFORD was under slight restraint while following close to the pacemakers, moved into a short lead at the final turn, but tired steadily when reaching the stretch. HER REIGH was used up racing with GENIE PALATINE and tired. GENIE PALATINE had no excuses. BLACK BOO wai overmatched, but showed a good performance. Overweight Bootless, 1 pound; Black Boo, 1J. SWIFTLET opened up a commanding lead after overhauling RUNNING WATER midway of the back stretch, javed ground all the way, but had to be shaken up vigorously to stall off ROLLICK. The latter, slow to settle into his stride, weaved his way between horses to reach a forward position and closed stoutly. INFILEE was far back for three-quarters, circled her field and finished stoutly. SIR REG closed a good gap after being slow to settle into his stride. COPPER TUBE could not enter contention at any stage. FEZ, prominent for seven-eighths, tired in the late stages. PASS raced evenly. RUNNING WATER tired early. BIRD LORE had no excuses. BRAVING DANGER, under stout restraint until leaving the back stretch, moved up stoutly when called upon, disposed of HOLLYHOCK in the stretch and was kept under pressure to the end. HOLLYHOCK, rated back of the pace of the leaders, moved up quickly to take a short lead on the far turn, but could not withstand the bid of the winner. DUTCH UNCLE, slow as usual in the early stages, finished with good speed. MINTON moved up to enter contention after three-quarters, but tired at the end. SNOBBY SCAMP tired badly after entering contention on the final turn. IDLE ALONG quit badly. COUNT ME could not keep up.
