BELOW ZERO was close up on the inside from the start, was lucky to avoid serious interference, came to the outside in the stretch to close with a rush and caught SCOTIAS FLAG in the last few strides. SCOTIAS FLAG, under a daring ride, got through several openings to reach a contending position on the stretch turn and, catching BARCAROLLE an eighth out, took command, but could not resist the winner. BARCAROLLE was well up from the start and had no excuses, tiring in the stretch. WISE ALIBI had the most early speed and tired in the stretch. KEOKEE had early speed, but could not keep up and was in close quarters. .Overweight Genteel Lady, 1 pound; Cavour, 1. FIFTH RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. COLONEL ED, never far from the pace and racing well, responded gamely to urging in the stretch to Finish fast and caught LADY FLORISE in the last stride. The latter saved ground in the early stages and caught KENTUCKY BLUES fifty yards out to take a short lead, but could not hold the winner. KENTUCKY BLUES raced to the front in the stretch and cut to the rail to shut off FAIR LEAD, but tired near the end. FAIR LEAD showed good speed in pacemaking and was tiring when KENTUCKY BLUES cut in front of him in the stretch. The others were always outrun. Scratched 40048Calaveras, 117. SEABISCUIT raced to the front soon after the start, was taken in hand after racing to a good lead rounding the First turn and, given a breathing spell around the far turn, was never fully extended and won well in hand. GRAND MANITOU moved up fast between horses after leaving the back stretch and, standing a hard stretch drive gamely, bested SOBRIETY. The latter made his move with GRAND MANrTOU and finished with courage. SPECIAL AGENT lacked his usual early speed, but made a strong move after leaving the back stretch, only to tire in the Final drive. DON ROBERTO was off rather slowly and made a good move approaching the far turn, but quit when put to a drive in the stretch. SIR ORACLE was closest to SEABISCUIT for the first half mile, but dropped back when the real racing began. INDIAN BROOM stumbled right after the start and, in close quarters while racing up on DON ROBERTOS flank going to the First turn, went to his knees and almost unseated his rider, losing all chance and just galloping far back of the field thereafter to be pulled up in the stretch.
