WANDREL, away well, was taken under stout restraint while being waited with well back of the leaders, bettered her position on the outside when leaving the back stretch,- wore down PEPPERY in the stretch and was going away at the end. PEPPERY, well up from the start, took command after racing FAIR BILLY into submission on the far turn, then drew clear, but could not withstand the bid of the winner. ITALIAN HARRY had good early speed while racing with FAIR BILLY, but tired badly. FAIR BILLY was hustled into an early lead, disposed of ITALIAN HARRY after three-quarters, but tired. BATTLE JACK assumed command soon after the start, was rated during the early racing, came out off the rail when reaching the stretch and, under stout urging, outstayed GRAPE THIEF. The latter bettered his position steadily on the outside and finished courageously in the final drive. WAY OUT had good speed to race forwardly, but could not stay when the real test came. BROWN MOTH was hustled hard all the vay, but failed to menace. HAZEL NUT showed a good effort. LOW CUTS did not appear to favor the ooting, JOLLY JACK began slowly and was unable to reach his field. DASHING DOE, unable to stay with the leaders after the opening eighth, rallied stoutly in the last three-eighths, came extremely wide into the stretch, but closed stoutly under punishment and came away rapidly after supplanting the leaders in the final sixteenth. AGLOW forced a steady pace while following close to BROADKILL, saved ground whenever possible, but could not stay when the real test came. BROADKILL gained command soon after the start, was hard ridden, but flattened out badly in the final eighth. HEAD HUNTER could not improve his position under punishment. BLACK BOO was held perfectly safe. BISCAYNE BLUE unseated his rider while at the post and lacked speed at all stages. DELORAINE was outrun. REGAL LILY was sent up cn the inside to reach a forward position after the start, moved up gamely to challenge the leaders entering the stretch, came to the outside and, closing strongly, came away inside the final sixteenth. COSETTE displayed good speed after getting to the front, showed good ability in the footing, but could not withstand the winner in the final drive. MY ELSIE raced forwardly under strong handling, but was tiring fast in the late stages and barely lasted to stall off MATTAPONY. The latter, lacking early speed, settled into his stride and finished gamely. AERO could not enter a contending position at any stage. FYAN was ridden hard, but was never a factor. JIMMIE CABANISS, at home in the going, outran ZAY to take command entering the back stretch, drew clear while saving ground, continued gamely to the end and outgamed ZAY under punishment in th final few yards. ZAY, closest to the winner while being rated strongly, responded to urging to move up fast through the stretch and just failed to get up. SILENT SHOT lacked speed to match the early leaders, saved ground throughout and finished stoutly. IRONBOUND, sluggish in finding his speed, trailed the field until the final quarter mile, but closed a good gap. HER REIGH could not keep up and appeared to dislike the going. DURWRACK, away well, was reserved while being rated close to the pace of MANDAS BABY, was placed to punishment through the stretch, wore down MANDAS BABY and held TORQUIL safe in the drive. The latter raced well placed from the start, saved ground on all the turns and finished stoutly. MANDAS BABY took a short early lead through the back stretch and continued gamely when headed. MOLASSES BOB, always in a contending position, could not better his position under pressure. SUN MICA raced evenly, but was no threat. The others were never factors. TRAGEDIAN, at home in the going, opened up a clear lead through the back stretch, saved ground throughout, but was no match for the winner. DEPARTED, slow to settle into its stride, moved through on the inside on the final turn and finished stoutly. NAVAL CADET raced evenly, but could not better his position. PATIENT SAINT appeared to dislike the going and quit. JIM JOHN quit badly after a half mile. QUIET PLEASE sprawled on the first turn when racing clear of horses and fell.
