t KEENELAND PARK NOTES $ Auval "Jack" Baker, who retired from the training profession last year, underwent an emergency operation for gallstones at Lexington Saturday morning. His condition is reported favorable. Bert Williams, trainer for Mrs. William F. Furst, and jockey Jack Westrope, who has just joined that establishment, came over from Louisville for the day. Williams reported that the Derby horses at Churchill Downs were training well, particularly Reaping Reward. Earl Sande has decided to start Maxwell Howards Fencing in the Blue Grass Stakes next Thursday and the horse will be vanned here from Churchill Downs. Jack Westrope has been engaged to ride him in the event. Word was received here of the death Saturday morning at New Orleans of Mrs. Josephine Constanza, mother of Anthony Pelleteri, prominent horseman. Pelleteri went to New Orleans several days ago when his mother became HI. Funeral services were held Sunday morning. Giant Killer, trained by Pelleteri, was declared from the Ben Ali Handicap, Saturdays feature. E. E. Russell plans to ship to Aurora next Thursday, having made reservations for Golden Fate, Sun Apollo, Kendal Green, Hy-marque and Gladess, which race for his wife, and Atina and Joaney B., owned by M. J. and M. P. Bransfield. The promising apprentice James W. Wilson, under lease to Russell, will accompany the shipment Accepting one mount here after the termination of his ten-day suspension. Earl Pool packed his tack and left for Louisville. The riding engagements of jockey J. Rosen are being made by William Crispe at Keene-land. Crispe will also have the" boys book at Churchill Downs. The C. Smythe stable, trained by W. E. Cobarn, leaves Monday for Narragansctt. The horses going to the Rhode Island track are Shoeless Joe, Luxuro, Stavka, Ocala and the two-year-olds Sink or Swim and String-along. The fleet two-year-old Sally Shall, cc-holder of the worlds record for three-eighths of a mile, was placed in training again Saturday morning by trainer S. W. Ward.- The daughter of Whiskaya, owned by Brown and Fetter of Louisville, made her first appearance for a morning-, trial since the Hialeah season.
