COLUMBIA DOWNS MEETING MAY 15 TO JUNE 20 SAN MATEO, Calif., April 26. Books for the spring meeting to be staged at Vancouver, Wash., have arrived at Bay Meadows. The track, which is the made-over half mile Bagley Park course, will be known as Columbia Downs. Eight races daily and twenty-eight days of racing will be given with May 15 as opening day. The session will terminate on June 20. Russell Sanders, racing secretary at Columbia Downs, is at the Bay Meadows course in an official capacity but is also representing the Vancouver track. He states that he expects to have about 400 horses on the grounds when Columbia Downs opens and many more following the close of Bay Meadows. Aside from Sanders, but one official has been named to date, that being Clay Puett, who has been engaged as starter. Puett officiated as starter at the Playfair Park meeting at Spokane last fall. A dozen stakes and handicaps will be given during the meeting, with the Memorial Handicap, May 31, and the Vancouver Derby, June 19, being outstanding. They carry purses of ,000.
