KYNE PLANS 0,000 RACE First Eunning of Bay Meadows Futurity Scheduled for 1938 Distance to Be One Mile. SAN MATEO, Calif., April 26. Looking forward to the future of racing in California, which he says hinges around the breeding industry, William P. Kyne today announced Bay Meadows will inaugurate a futurity valued at 0,000 in added money. The general manager has set aside places in coming Bay Meadows programs for two futurity runnings, the first in 1938 and the second In 1939. The races are open to young horses from any state or country. The 1938 edition is open to yearlings of this year and the 1939 to weanlings of this year, both to close on the same day, September 17, 1937. After the 1938 Inaugural, the race becomes a Futurity in the full sense of the word. Kyne expects it to take the same place in Western racing as that occupied by futurities in the East. The Futurity at Belmont has frequently grossed more than 00,000 to the winner, though only carrying 5,000 in added money. This vast sum is obtained through nomination fees, declaration fees, that must be posted at various times, and starting fees. Kyne says he proposes to elevate the purse until it corresponds to the Eastern juvenile fixture. The Bay Meadows Futurity is to take place in the fall of the year. The distance has been set at one mile, a true championship distance. Kyne believes his Futurity eventually will become the meeting place for star Easterners and Californias leading developments. He anticipates receiving heavy entries from nurseries, in Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland in addition to a powerful repletion in California home-breds. .
