BAY MEADOWS GOOD START Handle 98,332 on Opening Day of Meeting Officials Estimate Average Will Be 75,000. SAN MATEO, Calif., April 26. The Bay Meadows spring meeting is well on its way to success. The patrons who passed 98,332 in cash through the pari-mutuel windows will be back with more currency during the coming twenty-four days of the sport, and the season figures to wind up with a daily average handle of at least 75,000. On opening day last fall the handle was 22,684, and last spring 35,077. Bay Meadows stockholders, many of whom but a couple of years back wished to dispose of their holdings in the track, were chortling with glee following such a fine beginning. The more optimistic were envisioning another Santa Anita, where some members of the board, once rather drab, have blossomed into important personages In the sports world due to the enthusiasm of Call-fornians for the turf game.
