HAVRES CLOSING DAY 0,000 Added Philadelphia Handicap Feature of Concluding Card. I Aneroid Top Weight of Ten Named to Start Burning Star Rated His Most Dangerous Rival. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 29. The Philadelphia Handicap, one mile and one-sixteenth closing day feature at the Havre de Grace course of the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Associations fourteen-day spring meeting, has enticed ten good handicap performers to vie for the 0,000 added stakes tomorrow. Under the weight allotments assigned by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan, the headliner promises to be a keenly contested tussle. The field embraces the best of the handicap division quartered in this sector. Aneroid, J. A. Manfusos five-year-old son of The Porter, is held in highest regard by McLennan, who has alloted him 126 pounds, an impost that seems justified in view of his excellent past record. His winter rac- ing on the Coast did not dull his condition I and he came East to be a smashing second, J beaten only a nose, by Challephen in the J Southern Maryland Handicap at Bowie. He i will have the expert services of jockey R. I "Sonny" Workman in his engagement. J Aneroid was sent a handy half mile Friday morning in :48 to perfect his condition. i SHANDON HOPE. ! Next in the matter of weights is Shandon Farms Burning Star which is asked to carry 119 pounds. A triple stake winner last year, as a three-year-old he was somewhat of a disappointment in his winter campaign, which terminated with a poor showing in the Widener Challenge Cup at Hialeah Park. After a rest, however, the son of Burning Blaze came back to the races at Havre de , Grace last Tuesday and made a show of his opponents in an allowance race at the Phila- delphia distance and under 122 pounds. Melvin Lewis is here from Keeneland to ride the Shandon Farm hope. Brandywine Stables Masked General, under 112 pounds, must be considered a distinct : Continued on twenty-eighth page. He came from far back to win the six furlongs Hai-ford Handicap earlier in the meeting and left the impression that he would be better suited at the additional distance of Saturdays encounter. There are many who will bear in mind his second to War Admiral in the Pimlico Special last fall, in which he appeared all over the winner when he went extremely wide entering the j stretch. He breezed a half mile this morn-1 ing in :50. Jockey Joe Wagner will have the mount on the Brandywine representative. WATTS COLORBEARER. Busy K., assigned a similar impost to Masked General, will sport the silks of P. D. Lee Watts. This colts chance is certain to be enhanced should an "off" track develop, and there is a threat of rain in the air. Much interest will be centered in the appearance of Mrs. Emil Denemarks Corinto. In an allowance race last Saturday, the son of Wildair and Paloma loped to an impressive five-length victory in the fastest time recorded for the mile and seventy yaids distance at the meeting. In preparation for his race tomorrow he was sent a handy mile in 1:46. T. J. Healey has sent his Tatterdemalion down from New York to keep his engagement in the Philadelphia. This five-year-old son of St. Germans has been freshened up since his victory in the Tropical Handicap, closing day feature at Tropical Park. Unless he needs a conditioning race, he could become a distinct menace under 110 pounds and the guidance of Johnny Gilbert, who will come along to ride him. R. A. Moore is another sending an entry here from New York for the final days feature. This is Piccolo, which has been given 108 pounds. His winning effort in the McLennan Memorial at Hialeah Park was enough to justify his presence here. The others named appear to be somewhat overmatched, but Belair Studs Isolater has shown sparkling speed in trials, his latest being a handy five furlongs in 1:01. The card supporting the feature is an excellent one, headed by the Old Virginia Handicap, and, given clear weather, the meeting should terminate with a successful day. Jockey H. Simmons, who suffered a fractured wrist at Tropical Park, is expected to return to the saddle at Pimlico to ride for the Bomar Stable.
