VIRGINIA BOY gained steadily in the last half mile after being slow to settle into stride, reached the leaders on the final turn, assumed command readily and had enough in reserve to stall off TURKISH BRAND. The latter, very slow to get going, circled his field and came determinedly in the final drive. TOWN CAR . moved up strongly on the final turn to gain a short lead, but flattened out in the stretch run. FICKLE MOOD failed to stay when placed to a hard drive. SCOUT ROSE was used up forcing the early pace. RAZZLE DAZZLE broke in a tangle. BLAZING MEMORY does not amount to much. Overweight Scout Rose, 2 pounds. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. SNAP WRACK, away in the first flight, gained a short lead after the start, was stoutly ridden while saving ground and withstood a long drive willingly to stall off COMPANY HALT. The latter worked his way between horses to reach the pacemaker, was placed to punishment, but could not make up any ground in the final test. LADY ELGIN reached the leaders on the turn, continued on the outside and was going strongest at the end. MISS SELECTION was in the thick of contention all the way, but was not good enough. VALMISS finished gamely when securing racing room. GALANTERIE was unable to threaten. DEPTHBOMB was squeezed back early. MUDSILL was outrun. HI BEN showed early speed. RED PEPPER settled into his stride swiftly to take command in the first eighth, saved ground after shaking off SIR BEVIDERE and was under light urging to withstand HYPOCRITE. The latter, taken under light reserve in the early running, rallied when shaken up and closed willingly on the outside. SIR BEVIDERE forced a steady early pace, but tired when straightened" into the stretch. JOLLY TAR failed to threaten seriously at any time. CARNAGE had no excuses. SUN ANTIOCH sprinted into a long lead, was steadied until challenged and fought it out strongly to the close. SILENT SHOT, away very slowly, lost ground when taken to the outside, but finished full of run and may have been best. WILD, COUNT was well up most of the trip, but was not good enough. FRANK BROOKE was sent to the pacemaker swiftly on the turn out of the back stretch,- gained a short lead in the stretch drive, but could not stay. CAN BLOOM was rushed hard to get to the front, shook off MISS OAK and tired after saving much ground. CHASE HIM, badly outrun early, circled his field and finished full of run. SNOBBY SCAMP entered contention swiftly nearing the turn out of the back stretch, moved to the front on the turn, continued strongly and oufsfajed MISS TIPTOE. The latter, permitted to. settle into her best stride, before making her fun, failed td find racing room when steered through on the inside rounding the -final, turn, .came . around the leaders after being eased back .and was wearing the winner down gradually at the close. WESTBROOKE raced in his best form and held on well after making stout bids. BRAVING DANGER was well up for the first seven-eighths, then tired. RED LABEL tired when caught. MANTADOS was held safe.
