ARMY AVIATION EXPANSION WASHINGTON, D. C, Nov. 17. An enormous army aviation expansion program, providing for 5,000 fighting planes, is likely to be adopted by the next congress as a part of the new armaments program, Representative Andrew J. May, democrat, of Kentucky, chairman of the House Military Affairs Committee, said today. The program also may include an increase in the officer and enlisted strength of the army and expansion of ordnance, May revealed. In preparation for congressional consideration of national defense expansion, May hastened from Kentucky immediately after the election to plunge into discussions with the army high command. After canvassing the army situation with General Malin Craig, chief of staff, May asserted that an increase in defense forces is necessary and that the country will support it. The House Military Affairs Committee, he said, will conduct lengthy hearings on the question of expanding armed forces.
