BUNNY MARTIN closed well. MIDWICK had early speed. AMNERIS, forced to race wide in the early stages, was never a serious contender. DEER FLY was going well at the end. EURIPIDES, outrun early, came to the outside in the stretch to finish very fast in the middle of the track and won narrowly in a drive. PATROLITE, well up from the start, took a clear lead in the stretch and gamely withstood a challenge from CALAVERAS near the end. CALAVERAS came very fast to find an opening in the stretch and loomed as a likely winner nearing the end, but seemed to falter a trifle a few yards from the finish. LAME DUCK, a trailer in the early stages, closed much ground. HIS GIRL and DENBIGH tired in the stretch. SIR RIDGWAY raced very wide on the stretch turn. AUXILIARY was in close quarters early. ETHELMONT moved up steadily nearing the stretch turn to catch UNCLE LESS after straightening out for homo and, going well to the finish, held EPITOME to a dead heat. EPITOME was eased back when in close quarters an eighth out and, taken to the outside, came in resolute fashion to finish on equal terms with ETHELMONT. UNCLE LESS showed :speed in pacemaking and raced fairly well after being headed. RECOATNA tired in the stretch. THE SHINGLER had speed for a half mile, then dropped back and was badly beaten at the end.
