1 CHARLES TOWN TURF NOTES f f John H. Rose and C. Homer Rose, in charge of the concession of Hariy M. Stevens here plan a vacation at their home in Niles, Ohio at the conclusion of this meeting. Frank Brooke, member of the West Virginia Racing Commission, received word that Kenneth N. Gilpin, breeder and steward here, had recovered from an operation in Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, and would be discharged Thursday. Gilpin is also an official in the Virginia department of highways. John Bosley has five three-year-olds on the farm of G. O. Miles at Monkton, Md., for various, interests. At the conclusion of the meeting here, they will be schooled as jumpers. Mrs. L T. Brodie plans to ship Ocala to Cuba for a winter campaign. S. G. Davis stated that he would turn out eleven horses at Timonium for the winter. The best known member of the string is the plater, Huppy, which was entered in races 120 times during 1938. He ran forty-four times and earned some part of the purse on thirty-five occasions. Gordon H. Pearce sold Blue Prelude to V. Arthur for a sum that was not made public. Jockey W. G. Jackson departed for Tropical Park, where he intends to resume riding. Frank Brooke is contemplating the purchase of the mare, Bungalow, from Gordon H. Pearce for breeding purposes. R. Nixon will take his public stable to Hollywood, Fla., on Sunday. The shipment, will include Greedan, Lady Sara, Suncrax, Sparkling, Happy Host, Ross, and Happy Hostess.
