BIG STRING REACHES DOWNS Thirty-Three Milky Way Horses Arrive From Oaklawn. Seven Kentucky Derby Eligibles Included In Chicago-Owned Stable Physical Condition Good. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 6. Another powerful stable whose colors are familiar to patrons of almost every major course in the country arrived at Churchill Downs when the Milky Way Farm thoroughbreds of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars were unloaded under the supervision of trainer Roy Waldron. The stable contained thirty-three horses twenty older horses and thirteen two-year-olds all of which came from Oaklawn Park. The horses arrived in excellent physical condition and were bedded down in the big private stable just, outside the track. Included in the shipment, which came in three cars, were seven eligibles for the Kentucky Derby, but which of them will start in the big race May 6 has not yet been decided. The Derby nominees of the Milky Way establishment, which is one of the largest on the turf, are No Competition, On Location, Up the Creek, Sports Writer, Magic Key, Rule All and Giles County. The arrival of these three-year-olds increases the number of Derby eligibles on the scene, and observers here will be eagerly awaiting their appearances on the track. Other older horses in the stable are Military, Mars Shield, Tiger, Mountain Ridge, Dinner Date, Our Treat, Banner Man, Far-rell, High Pressure, Warbridge, Time Please, Grey Dog and Starry Path. The two-year-olds are Rough Passage, Continued on sixteenth page. BIG STRING REACHES DOWNS Continued from first page. Charitable, Tough Hombre, Chatted, Valtite, Tokahnan, Ginger Ted, Gold Teddy, Galla Hadion, Storcky, More Lustre, Gross Plenty and Royal Edict. Mrs. Mars, annually one of the most lavish spenders at the Saratoga Sales, gave 1,500 for Rough Passage, which is a bay colt by Bull Dog and Wild Waters, and 0,500 for Tough Hombre, a chestnut colt by Hard Tack and Alice Harris. The most expensive filly in the group is Storcky, a bay daughter of Bull Dog and Aloof, which cost ,300 as a yearling. The Milky Way Stable subscribed liberally to Churchill Downs stakes and horses from this establishment are expected to figure prominently in their runnings. All of the horses received their early preparation at Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs, although four of those which were at the resort course were sent back to the farm at Pulaski, Tenn. Those returned to the farm were John One, Favorite Son, Heel In and Manspell, the latter a two-year-old. TO RACE AT KEENELAND. Waldron said that he expected to send a half dozen horses or so to Keeneland for engagements at the Lexington track. The entire stable is to be campaigned here throughout the Churchill Downs season and then probably will be sent to the Chicago circuit, unless Mrs. Mars makes other plans for the stable. In the absence of the stables top rider, Alfred Robertson, who sustained a broken Bhoulder in a fall at Oaklawn Park, Herbert Lindberg will do much of the riding for Milky Way Farms. Robertson, who was injured in a training accident, is recuperating at his home in Florida, but is expected to rejoin the stable in about three weeks. Besides those nominated for the Derby, Milky Way eligibles for other Churchill Downs stakes are: Clark Handicap Tiger, Military, Mars Shield. Derby Trial No Competition, Up the Creek, Giles County, Magic Key, Sports Writer, On Location, Rule All. Churchill Downs Handicap Mars Shield, Tiger, Military.
