STATISTICS FOR KEENELAND Annual Meetings at Lexington Grow in Popularity Every Year. Heather Broom Carries Off Racing Honors by Winning: the Blue Grass Stakes, Chief Stake of Session. The annual meetings of the Keeneland Association at the new Keeneland track on the former thoroughbred nursery of Hal Price Headley near Lexington, Ky., are growing in volume and popular appeal with each passing year. This years session was the best of them all and, while the sport itself might have been a mite less interesting than that of 1938, blue grass fans and visiting enthusiasts voiced their complete approval nevertheless. 2,215 was distributed, a daily average of ,474.09. The meeting began on April 13 and ended April 27. The Greentree Stable of Mrs. Payne Whitney walked away with the lions share of the money distributed, a total of ,800. It was the leading money-winning establishment. Racing honors went to Heather Broom, winner of the Blue Grass Stakes, chief turf event of the meeting.
