"ROMAN, away fast and having the, most speed, raced under a good hold to the final quarter, quickly increased his advantage when lightly shaken up after straightening out in the stretch and, taken in hand in the last eighth, won with speed in reserve. BLACK BRUMMEL moved up* gradually in the first three-eighths, failed to endanger the winner while racing gamely under pressure in the stretch; but held the others safe. CHARITABLE, fractious at the post, but away fast, kept up under strong urging and on the iflsjde early, dropped back slowly on the turn and raced evenly through the final quarter. DIAVOLOCLIFF raced well. TOWN. BOY had to race wide and showed a good effort. CHATTED was cut off shortly sifter the start. CENTUPLE quit. ■ . . v ., ,. Scratched — 71842 Maninthemoon, 117. Won handily; second and third driving. • STAR BUD was taken in hand after being rushed into command in the first quarter, was never seriously challenged while making an easy pace and, shaken up in the stretch, held ENFIN safe to win handily. The latter, under steady reserve for seven-eighths, closed resolutely under stout pressure, but could riot get to the winner. AHEAD, badly outrun early and blocked leaving the back stretch, swung to the outside entering the stretch, closed fast and, with better luck, would have been a stronger factos. RUSSIA, allowed to drop out of it, moved up under urging after reaching the final turn, but hung under increased pressure in the drive. PANALONG moved up slightly on the outside on the second turn, swerved behind horses in the stretch and tired badly in the final three-sixteenths. The others had no mishaps. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. INSCOMIRA, hustled along from the start and placed in hand after reaching a contending position, responded well when called upon in the drive and, wearing down COSSACK GIRL when inside the final eighth, won drawing away. The latter, rushed into a clear lead during the opening three-eighths, set a good pace under light restraint, was put to pressure when challenged and tired near the end. LILLIAN ROTH, never far back after a good beginning, held on well. RESPHA raced evenly and tired in the drive. FLYING LANCE raced wide early and held on under strong urging.
