NEW DEAL, prominent after being hurried into a contending position, rallied gamely in the last half mile, overhauled the leaders while saving ground and came away under a drive. BIT BY BIT was close up in the early stages, displaced ELSIE J. midway of the final turn, but tired and bore out during the stretch I drive. PORTUNUS raced as if much the best, was badly messed about on the first turn when taken out off the rail, was repeatedly taken up to fall far back, then was taken wide to better his position. SACHEM, lacking early speed, improved his position gradually in the late stages. SANDY BELLE could not keep up when the real test came. ELLABEE had a rough trip. MAEFLEET raced, evenly. TWO ACES had no speed and can do better. OFFENDER could not threaten. SUPER JOHN was held safe. " BROWN TWIG, racing smartly" improved, was kept close to the pacemaker after being hurried tothe first turn, responded gamely to take command rounding the final turn, continued gamely and barely ; lasted to withstand GUEST OF HONOUR II. The latter stood flat footed at the start to. get away poorly, reached his field midway of the back-stretch, improved his position steadily and ivas AVearing the winner down at every stride. KINROSS, outrun for three-quarters, bettered his position gamely in the last half mile. .ROCKY MEADOW was caught in tight quarters on the final turn when making a strong bid, recovered and finished gamely. COUNT TETRARCH raced evenly. JINX set a steady pace, but failed to stay; BOSTON MARY raced well placed but was not good enough. ODDESA LAD tired after -three-quarters and pulled v : " * tip lame. .
