Navy Cross and The Swallow Interest Kentucky Breeder LEXINGTON, Ky., May 16. John B. Gorham, veteran breeder, is pleased with the stake victories of Navy Cross and The Swallow. The reason, he bred Navy Cross and the dam of The Swallow, Polly Play. Gorham has been breeding thoroughbreds for many years. As early as 1916 he bred the noted racer and sire, Eternal, juvenile champion of 1918. Never has he owned a large band of brood mares, but he has bred and raised a number of stake winners. The latest is Navy Cross. Navy Cross is a son of Infinite My Silesia. Not only did he breed Navy Cross, but he bred his dam and his granddam. The dam, My Silesia, by My Play, is out of Silesia, by Trap Rock. The Infinite colt was sold at Saratoga Springs last summer for ,600 to Kirby Ramsey. Recently he won the Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs. The Swallow, winner of the Ashland Stakes, was bred by her owner, John Hay Whitney. Her dam, Polly Play, also by My Play, was bred by Gorham, who sold her to Whitney. Gorham still owns Polly Plays dam, Polly Pennant.
