Four Withers Candidates Drill for Rich Mile Stake Requested Devil Diver, Shut 0ut7 Flaughf All Work on Main Strip ELMONT, L. I., N. Y., May 16. Three prominent hopefuls for next Saturdays Withers mile Requested, Devil Diver, and Shut Out went through useful drills as a highlight of training hours today at Belmont Park. All three worked on the same mile and a half main oval. The move of Mrs. Ben Whitakers Requested, who dead-heated Sun Again in the Preakness in his latest essay, was most ambitious of the three. Trainer Blackie McCoole sent Questionnaires diminutive son a mile which dockers timed in :49, 1:01, l:14J5, 1:27 aril: 1:40, the liver-colored colt encompassing this task under a steadying restraint. Devil Diver breezed along seven furlongs at the moderate clip of :50, 1:16 and 1:29, while the Kentucky Derby winner, Shut Out, accounted six furlongs in -49 and 1:16. Trainer Gaver ir undecided which of the Greentree duo will fly the famed pink and black, in the Withers. In one of the smartest trials of the morning by a Withers eligible was that of Walter M. Jeffords Flaught, who is not, however, among the topflighters eligible. Flaught was timed a mile in :23, :46, :59, 1:11 and 1:38, almost his racing gait. All these training maneuvers were on the main course, which was in its best condition. An interesting Acorn trial was that of Jock Whitneys The Swallow, who dusted, over a mile in :49, 1:13, 1:25 and 1:39 in obvious preparation to fill her engagement in next Wednesdays eight-furlong filly special.
