Y., March 31.— The license committee of The Jockey Club ap-r proved 1944 licenses for 10 jockeys and 87 trainers and these licenses were granted by the board of stewards at the regular meet-? ing held late Thursday. No application was | received from jockey Don Meade and no action was taken on the application made by jockey Robert Merritt. The jockeys who received licenses and their contract employers are Eddie Arcaro, Greentree Stable; Ted Atkinson, C. V. Whitney-J. M. Roebling; Leonard Love-. ridge, Clyde Phillips; James Lynch, Brook-l meade Stable; Anthony Pascuma, free lance; Bill Pearson, W-L Ranch; Bobby Permane, Jules Wessler; Joe Renick, free lance: Arthur V. Valentine, James Ma- honey, and Charles Wahler, Brookmeade Stable. Having been published twice in the rac-j ing calendar, the amendment to the rules of racing giving more power to the stew-c aids in cases involving stimulation and other practices detrimental to racing are now approved and in force. Two name changes were approved at the meeting, both for two-year-olds. Arkubus, a chestnut gelding, by Johnstown or Bel-fonda — Carbina, is now known as Ollie Simmons. Tintamarre, chestnut filly, by Tintagel — War Banner, will race as Balou Empress. Twenty-four foals were registered from 13 states.
