Ky., March 31.— Headed by Morris Vehons Santa Claus, an eligible for the seventieth running of the Kentucky Derby and other important three-year-old classics, J. M. "Jake" Lowenstein is pre- j 1 paring a string of 10 at Churchill Downs for 1944. | Santa Claus, a black son of Balladier and Princess Edith, who won three races in 1 seven outings last year, is well advanced in training and is ready for serious trials as soon as the track is in condition. His ultimate Derby status depends upon his J l showings in a couple of tune-up races j I that Lowenstein plans for him during the Keeneland meeting, which precedes j j Churchill Downs. | Lowenstein has three other horses, all juveniles, for Vehon.
