runner. J l : t • I • Sun Beau Gave Jack Whyte His Greatest Thrill on Turf CORAL GABLES, Fla., March 31— Jack Whyte was greatly distressed to hear of the sudden death of the former money-winning thoroughbred king, Sun Beau. Whyte trained the gallant son of Sun Briar during his days of glory on the turf, taking him "over the top" in the Arlington Handicap at Arlington Park on August 1, 1931, to become the highest money gleaner up to that time. "Sun Beau was one of the finest gentle- men I ever knew," said Whyte. "The greatest thrill I ever knew on the turf was made possible when this great colt circled his field on the turn and came charging down to the wire in front that afternoon in Chi- cago. I lost more than 30 pounds those final two months before Sjun Beau reached his goal, but those few shining seconds in the winners ring made it all worth while. Horse racing lost a mighty figure in the passing of the Kilmer colorbearer."
