Boqenschutz and Clark At Work at Hawthorne Racing Secretary Reports Many Nominations for Crete Handicap HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 5.— Lawrence "Larry" Bogenschutz. racing secretary of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club and James T. Clark, paddock judge, are the first of the official family to make an appearance at Hawthorne for the forthcoming 30-day spring meeting which opens next Monday. May 12. Both officials arrived yesterday from Churchill Downs where they completed their official duties on Derby Day. The genial racing secretarys first announcement was that nominations for the 0 000 Crete Handicap, the first of the added money events on Lincoln Fields program were exceptionally heavy, and that the race looms as one of the toughest of the meeting. Larry said that weights for the Crete would be announced on Wednesday afternoon. Bogenschutz also revealed that some of the best stables now quartered at Churchill Downs are making ready to ship up to Hawthorne. Among these racing establishments are John M. Goode, who has a large stable of his own horses as well as those of J. A. Goodwin, whose Dark Jungle won the Churchill Downs Handicap; Mrs. J. S. Letelliers large string trained by Will Reesequet, which includes the good handicap star Jack S. L., winner of the Clark Handicap: Howard "Babe" Wells large public stable, including his own horses as well as those of David Straus and Walmac Farm; J. p. Sallee, Bryant Otts Shady-brook Farm, and Jake and Mose Lowen-stein. Clark, whose duties include registering horses and issuing badges to horsemen, will be on the job early each morning. Samuel H. McMeekin, presiding steward for the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club, will arrive here Thursday, while Russell Sweeney general manager of Churchill Downs, will be on hand in the morning.
