Eternal Reward to Try For Repeat in Crete Sprint Stake Will Headline First Lincoln Card on May 16 With more than 100 horses already on the grounds, final preparations are being completed for the Lincoln Fields meeting at Washington Park which opens Monday, May 16. All signs point to a banner meet insofar as the class of horses competing, according to general manager Peter J. ODonnell. Practically all of the stables, which through the years have been fixtures at Lincoln Fields, such as those of John Marsch, Woolford Farm, Howard Wells and Mrs. Albert Sabath, will be represented. Newcomers at Lincoln Fields will include Mrs. Ada L. Rice and Howard A. Jones, whose Australian horse, Warra Nymph, will try for the Lincoln Fields handicap. The first stake of the meeting will be the six-furlong Crete Handicap to be run on opening day. Eternal Reward, Augustus and Nahms great "upset" horse which won this stake last year at odds of 46 to 1, was among the first entries received for the 1949 Crete. Others named for this stake include Oscar J. Breaults stout campaigner, With Pleasure; Mrs. Emil Dene-marks triple entry of Provocative, Bullish and Enforcer: Woolford Farms Delegate; O. L. Hoppers Loriot; and Peter J. Va-lentis Caillou Rouge. The other stakes on the Lincoln Fields schedule are thc 0,000 Joliet stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings, Saturday, May 21; the 0,000 Steger Handicap for three-year-olds and upward at six and one-half furlongs Saturday, May 28; the 5,000 Peabody Memorial for three-year-olds at a mile and one-eighth on May 30; the 0,000 LaSalle Handicap at a mile and one-eighth on June 4; the second running of the 0,000 Miss America Stakes for two-year-old fillies on June 11; and the 5,000 Lincoln Fields Handicap at a mile and a quarter on closing day, June 18. Racing secretary L. C. Bogenschutz will arrive in Chicago early next week to resume the duties which he handled last season.
