TROUBLE, slow to settle into his best stride, rallied willingly to strong handling while racing between horses and wore jj°wn EMERGENCY HOUR in the closing strides. The latter, also outrun for the first quarter, was put to pressure in the last quarter to take command between calls in the late stages, but could not last. SHOW PLACE displaced COCKPIT after a quarter and weakened under a sustained drive. ROPE TRICK made up ground fas tin the late stages, but was not good enough. COCKPIT had high early speed and weakened. WISE QUEST was through early. SUN QUEST was never a factor. FOREIGN AFFAIR and SCOOP were outrun. TOP PILOT was under energetic handling early to gain the lead, drew out under urging rounding the turn and, while drifting out entering the stretch, held his advantage under continued pressure. DEGAGE broke alertly, but was allowed to drop far back in the run down the backstretch, rallied from between horses when roused for the drive and made up ground fast. MAYES RILEY was well placed from the beginning, but failed to rally when called on. FUGIT saved ground in an even effort. LETS DANCE was never a factor. WAHLIMA, hard held for the first mile, began to advance nearing the eighth hurdle, responded readily to pressure to wear down GALACTIC soon after clearing the ninth hurdle and held his advantage while being ridden out. GALACTIC assumed command without urging nearing the seventh hurdle, but, when put to strong handling in the late stages, could not hold the winner. AVOCAT raced strongly to the last hurdle and tired under punishment. RISE-TO-FOLLOW tired badly after racing prominently for the first mile. ESCARP was through early. RARE PERFUME forced the pace in hand from the outside, wore down HIGH FREQUENCY soon after passing the final furlong marker and. under strong handling, stalled off BED O ROSES. The latter broke well, but was shuffled back in the early running, was brought to the inside when rallying and, under a sustained drive in the last quarter, made a bold bid to narrowly miss. HIGH FREQUENCY had speed, raced true, but faltered under punishment near the end. TUNIC was never a serious factor. LURING broke slowly. SCOTCH WINE gave way steadily after a quarter. BLUE LANCER had speed, raced a trifle wide on the turn and, under extreme pressure through the last quarter, held CURANDERO safe. The latter broke slowly, was rushed into a contending position while racing on the rail during the run down the backstretch, headed the winner a quarter out, but faltered under punishment in the last eighth. GALLOPING GUS was never far back, raced a trifle wide and lacked a closing rally. DANHERST, steadied along while being outrun in the first half, was brought to the outside when roused on the stretch turn and made up ground fast through the stretch run. ALGASIR moved to within striking distance of the leaders when rounding the turn, but failed to rally when called upon. ARISE was through early. DISCONSOLATE quit after a half. The latter forced the pace in hand from the outside, moved up boldly on entering the final quarter, but could not get to the winner. ALTHIRD had no mishap in an even effort. ELASTIC had no mishap in an even effort. HAILE was never a factor. TICK OUT tired from his early efforts. OXFORD BLUE was far back.
