Goldfield Odds-On Pawtucket Winner Reaches Wire Two and Half Lengths Before Marie Egret In Featured Eden Park Purse NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 13. — The public was faithfully rewarded in the Eden Park, claiming race feature on todays program, when the Arnold Stuart Stables three-year-old Gold-field came wearily to the finish as a two and one-half length victor in his role as 7-to-10 favorite. H. Guy Bedwells Marie Egret was the stoutest finisher and managed to be up for the place by a nose over Plucky Prince, racing in the interest of Mrs. D. Harrison. King Ranchs Soleda was a clear distance back and fourth in the field of eight sophomores. A beautiful early summer afternoon was enjoyed by the estimated gathering of 10,383. The sun shone warmly and brightly, but the edge was taken off of the heat by a strong south breeze. Goldfield was a clear cut but hard driven winner of the one mile and 70 yards feature. Apprentice Richard DeStasio had the bay son of Hyperionion well within himself during the early running. He was never far off the pace being set by Plucky Prince and graduated from fourth at the quarter and third at the half, until quickly moving into a clear lead going to the six furlongs. Drawing into a better than four-length advantage rounding into the stretch, Gold-field showed signs of weariness and, after DeStasio had repeatedly swung around for a rear view of his opponents, he was set down for a real drive in the final sixteenth as an insurance against being nipped at the wire. Rosers First Winner The field was driving hard behind Gold-field, however, and, although Marie Egret moved up boldly in the stretch, she was only passing tiring horses. Plucky Prince appeared through after giving way to the winner on the far turn, but stayed evenly and just missed lasting for the place. Young Gilbert Roser made an auspicious beginning as a bona fide apprentice rider this afternoon by bringing home E. K. Bry-sons heretofore maiden three-year-old, Killer Mac, to an upset victory in the second race. Those few patrons favoring the chances of the combination were rewarded with a straight mutuel return of 25.80 for a ticket. Fewer in number were those who coupled Killer Mac in the Daily Double with the winner of the first race, J. M. Grieves Innate, with the Double pay-off being 48.80. Roser, who is 24 years of age, hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, and is under contract to the former reinsman Nick Burger, turned in a nice ride astride Killer Mac for his maiden victory. Killer Mac was kept under light urging while in third position and close to the pace. After reaching the stretch, Roser swung his mount wide for the drive, then after swerving momentarily, was well handled to be taken off Grant Thorns Sunny Bones, and drew out to win by a length.
