Select 164 Yearlings For California Sales Three by Alibhai and Two by Thumbs Up Included in Group LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 13.— One hundred and sixty-four thoroughbred yearlings have been selected for the California Thoroughbred Breeders Associations annual summer sale to be held at Hollywood Park, July 18, 19 and 20, according to Walter J. Thomson, association secretary. More than 200 were originally nominated and each was individually inspected by Col. F. W. Koester, thoroughbred authority. Final selection of the 164 was made by a special breeders committee as representing the "pick of the 1949 crop." There are three by the famed Alibhai, two by Thumbs Up, and others by Free France, Sir Damion, War Relic, Dauber, With Regards and other top ranking popular sires. Thomson declared that this years crop of yearlings is far better both from a standpoint of condition and pedigree than in any previous year. He enthusiastically predicted that prices, because of this factor alone, will probably run higher oh the average than in last years California breeders sale.
