GOOF OFF improved his position steadily from the outside to the stretch turn, where when roused he came-between horses to wear down TRUE PILGRIM in the early stretch and drew out with ease. ORIENT, steadied along while racing between horses early, found racing room on the inside when making his bid and, while unable to menace the top one, appeared best of the others. TRUE PILGRIM had good speed from the beginning, saved ground to the final turn, where he drifted out while tiring. HOLLY STAR failed to rally when set down for the drive. FLASHY GAL raced evenly. EXTINGUISHER pressed the pace from the outside and drifted out while tiring in the late stages. ISOCHINO was outrun in a dull performance. Scratched— 76541 Flag Isis, 113. POMANDER attained a clear early lead while under energetic handling, saved ground throughout and, after being lightly shaken up on entering the stretch, drew into a long lead to win with something in reserve. INCHCAPELLA worked her way up between horses in the run down the backstretch, came to the inside while being steadied rounding the turn and, after being put to extreme pressure for the drive, was unable to get to the top one. FRATERNAL, taken under snug restraint while racing- on the outside, made a mild rally nearing the final quarter, then flattened out in the drive. MISS NINA S. made up some ground from a slow beginning. CONTRASAIL gave way steadily after going three-eighths. WIN THE PEACE was outrun. Scratched— 76747 Red Banjo, 106; 76861 Thriller 113. Won driving; third the same. CHARIOTEER wanted for racing room early, but responded gamely to urging when clear to wrest command from MONKEY WRENCH after the final hurdle, then lasted to finish on even terms with MONKEY WRENCH under a sustained drive. The latter improved his position steadily while jumping cleanly to take command after the eighth hurdle and, after losing the lead inside the final hedge, came again under strong handling and caught the tiring CHARIOTEER in the final strides. EQUANIMOUS wrested the lead after the sixth hedge, but had little left when the real test came. ALAMAHD had a rough trip and had no chance. ARCTIC BOUND was caught in the jamming early and made a mild rally in the late stages. TALLYMAN gave way suddenly after racing close up for seven jumps. SOEURETTE was away poorly. SUPER-SALESMAN wrested command from between horses soon after the start, came to the inside rounding the stretch turn and was put to strong handling to dispose of SOB STORY a furlong out and held his advantage while going handily. The latter was brought to the outside when roused for the drive and moved up strongly in the early stretch but hung under extreme pressure. ARMELLE was never a great distance back, was eased back while being carried out rounding the turn and failed to rally when clear. COVENANT could not keep up. WISE BULL was outrun. TARPORT KID found his best stride after a half mile and finished full of run on the inside. ORBIT tired from his early efforts. DISCONSOLATE was used up early in attempting to get the lead. COAT OF ARMS, hard held while saving ground for the first mile, was brought to the outside when roused on entering the stretch to wear down PROFANO inside the last sixteenth and gradually drew out with the rider losing his whip just inside the sixteenth pole. PROFANO disposed of BLUESWEEP while under a light hold after going three-quarters, drew out with ease and, while under strong handling in the late stages, could not resist the winner. BLUESWEEP wrested command after a quarter, but commenced giving way after going a mile. EQUINOX was always far back. ISLAND HOP raced evenly. ORPHAN FIBBER was not persevered with in the late stages.
