Gushing Oils Trainer Started As Latonia Track Policeman PolicemanJOSEPH JOSEPH WHTTEY JANSEN JR is making his second endeavor to saddle a Kentucky Derby winner with Gushing Oil His first Derby try came last year when he sent Royal Mustang and Golden Birch postward as an entry for Sam E Wilson Jr of Texas They finished second and nineteenth respectively Jansen is a native of Covington Ky came to the turf as a track policeman at old Latona He took a keen interest in training horses gave up his job with the track and started out on his own He studied under and worked for the late Bill Hurley then trainer for Col E R Bradley Jansen has worked in both the Midwest and hi California where for a time he was associated with the stable of Louis B Mayer He is 45
